TV presenter and Rivita Minis advert princess, Fern Britton, has been "shamed" by having to admit her incredible weight loss was due to a gastric band operation, and not "the old-fashioned way". Tabloid newspapers had a party when they detected yet another celebrity to slate and slag off.
Yet, I just can't find myself to be angry at Fern for "lying" about her weight loss. The beautiful older lady has been an inspiration to millions whilst losing her weight - and has given a positive body image to women and men who feel overwhelmed by the long weight loss.
The phrase "Do as I say, not as I do" springs to mind, as Fern encourages the nation to lose weight the healthy way - by healthy eating, exercise and positive self-fulfilment.
I'm glad that Fern wasn't honest about her operation. Too many young adults are taking the "easy route", spending all of their money on expensive operations. Fern, though perhaps not showing the nation how to tell the truth, gave the nation inspiration to tackle their own weight issues in the way that she seemed to.
